Chapter 2 — Dominion Attempt The distance between them meant nothing. The creature did not retreat. Did not strike. Did not hesitate. It waited. Seras’ hand hovered inches from its face. Close enough to touch. Close enough to matter. The pressure in the chamber tightened. Not violently. Expectantly. Like a system holding its breath. Ace shifted her weight. Ready. Not to intervene. To react. Mai didn’t move. Already tracking— not motion— but outcome paths. Shammy— still. Too still. Holding something that wasn’t meant to be held. Seras made contact. Her fingers touched the creature’s skin. It wasn’t flesh. Not entirely. It yielded— just slightly— as if uncertain what it was supposed to be. And then— everything moved. Not outward. Inward. The connection snapped fully into place. Not partial. Not exploratory. Complete. Seras’ posture didn’t change. But something behind her eyes— shifted. Mai saw it. “She’s inside it.” Ace: “Or it’s inside her.” Neither corrected the other. The chamber reacted. The walls— the roots— everything pulsed in unison. Not chaotic. Synchronized. Seras didn’t move. Didn’t speak. Because she wasn’t here anymore. Not fully. Inside— the structure was different. Not physical. Conceptual. Layers of control. Signal pathways. Decision trees grown from biological logic. And at the center— something watching. Not with eyes. With pattern recognition. It assessed her. Instantly. Not who she was. What she represented. Predator. Controller. Hierarchy. Compatible. But not accepted. Seras answered. Not in words. In position. She didn’t push. Didn’t force. She overrode. Not by strength. By definition. You are not the origin. The system reacted. Resistance. Immediate. Incorrect. Not a voice. A structural correction. Seras didn’t yield. You are a function. The response surged. Harder. I generate. Seras: You produce. A beat. I decide what remains. The system paused. Not stopped. Re-evaluating. Outside— Seras’ body remained still. But the pressure in the room spiked. Shammy gasped— just slightly. “It’s pushing harder—” Mai: “She’s forcing a hierarchy conflict.” Ace: “Can she win that.” Mai didn’t answer. Because this wasn’t a fight. It was a rewrite. Inside— the system adapted. Faster now. It began to mirror her. Not behavior. Structure. Hierarchy forming in response to hierarchy. Seras felt it. Of course she did. Good. The word didn’t exist. But the intent did. Now choose. The system split. Not physically. Logically. Two pathways. Continue uncontrolled expansion Accept external hierarchy Seras held both. Balanced them. Then— tightened. You are already dependent. That was the key. The pivot. The truth the system hadn’t processed yet. Without structure— A pause. you collapse into noise. The system resisted. Violently. Because that was— correct. Outside— Seras’ body trembled. Just once. Almost invisible. Ace saw it. “That’s not free.” Mai: “No.” Shammy: “It’s learning from her.” That was the problem. Inside— the system adapted again. Faster. Sharper. It began to restructure its own hierarchy— to include her. Not under. Not over. Alongside. Seras felt it instantly. And rejected it. No. This time— force. Absolute. There is no “alongside.” The system pushed back. Then there is conflict. Seras: Then you lose. The chamber shook. Not physically. Structurally. Reality bending under competing definitions. Shammy dropped to one knee. Ace moved immediately. “Shammy—” “Still—holding—” Her voice fractured. “But it’s pulling more now—” Mai’s hands moved faster. “She needs resolution.” Ace: “Then give it to her.” Inside— Seras saw it. The flaw. Not in the system. In its assumption. You believe growth is survival. The system responded instantly. Correct. Seras: Then learn something new. A pause. A shift. Control is survival. And then— she cut. Not the system. The possibility of anything else. Outside— the pressure snapped. Clean. Total. Shammy gasped— air rushing back into a system that had been holding too much. Mai froze. Then— slowly— lowered her hands. Seras opened her eyes. Fully. Present. The creature in front of her— dropped. Not dead. Not broken. Submitted. The chamber stilled. Completely. For the first time since they entered— nothing moved. Ace exhaled. “That… worked.” Seras didn’t respond immediately. She looked at the fallen construct. Then— past it. Deeper. “No.” Her voice was quiet. Too quiet. “That was just the beginning.” Because now— the system understood. And what it had learned— was her. [END OF ACT IV — Chapter 2] Nyt ollaan syvällä pelissä.
